Studies have shown that there is a clear intersectionality between neurodiversity and addiction, as a result of shared experiences with difficulty around communication, social situations, dissociation and not fitting into societal norms. This subject will be explored from different perspectives as part of this creative workshop/discussion in partnership with Portraits of Recovery and Venture Arts during Recoverist Month.
Led by Manchester-based visual artist Will Belshah, this event will be a combination of group discussion and creative response, where participants can paint onto a single roll of canvas responding to what has been discussed, to create valuable human connections by sharing unique lived experience and contextualising emotions, feelings and intent through the creative process.
This event will feature contributions from Amanda Sutton (Director of Venture Arts), Dominic Pillai (Curator of Social Engagement at PORe), Nwando Ebizie (Multidisciplinary artist ??), Julie McCarthy (Creative Health Strategic Lead at NHS GMCA TBC) and Andrew Irving (Professor of Visual Anthropology at The University of Manchester TBC) and is a part of HOME artist development programme resulting in a new work exhibited within the Granada Foundation Gallery’s for Recoverist Month 2025.
